October 29th:
The theme of the meeting was “family.” Lila introduced this theme, discussing how families are built and relating it to how we build the McGill Toastmasters family. Kurumi Fujita joined us all the way from Japan, where it was 6 a.m.! She delivered her speech, which had won 1st prize in Division E, and it was evaluated by Lila.
We had three guests: one attending for the second time, one interested in improving public speaking, and another hoping to join to improve his English.
Ben Junior, who recently joined, shared a tip on controlling the pace of a speech by alternating between slow and fast delivery. Valerie offered a moment of reflection on the benefits of pursuing hobbies. Payment brought an impromptu moment of humor to the meeting, thanks to a funny question from Lila, who had taken on that role at the start. He shared a humorous story about his first experience with languages in Canada.
Lourdine led the Table Topics session and did an excellent job! Esra, who also just joined the club, delivered her first speech in a dynamic and impressive way. She spoke about herself and her experiences in Turkey, and her mentor, Ouafa, evaluated her for the first time, highlighting Esra’s strengths and offering tips for improvement.
Mariam served as the general evaluator, giving constructive feedback to everyone and sharing her observations about the meeting. She mentioned overhearing Josee tell a guest that the theme had changed from “love” to “family” because, after all, “love is family.”
