Cheryl finds it hard to put into words what McGill Toastmasters means to her, so she (with percussionist Elie) put it in a rap:
“It’s a place, where you face
many fears as people cheer you on
for better public speaking, if you’re seeking to improve.
It’s a hub of a club,
filled with lotsa friendly faces, many cultures and all ages
on the way to find their groove….
It’s a door, so much more
leading forward to exploring
All that IS communication, generations will attest.
It’s a way, I would say
to discover one another on the journey as a brother
or a sister seeking “best”….
It’s a jewel of a school
teaching leadership and graces, as a basis it inspires
and requires us to listen.
Self-directed, it’s expected
when electing to get better, it’s on us – and on our mentor –
to discover what we’re missing…
But to me, you can see
that it’s also ’bout tradition, it’s our mission to maintain
the perfect name that we fulfill.
20 YEARS, let us “cheers”
to the learning and the friendship, never ending, we’re ascending
WE ARE TOASTMASTERS MCGILL!”
